Watches with GPS
GPS has in the last few years become one of the many things that human beings cannot do without. Get into a taxi cab anywhere in the Western world, and the driver will be navigating by means of a GPS sat nav system. Most motorists now have a GPS sat nav, and use it even for drives across the centre of a city. So it was only a matter of time until an alternative for pedestrians presented itself. And now it has – watches with GPS.
Buying a GPS enabled watch is the answer pedestrians have been looking for to the problem of arriving in an unfamilar city with little knowledge of the street layout or where one is going. Some personal GPS systems have been developed, but up to now all have been mobile phone-based and have therefore been impractical for the purpose of navigating around an unfamilar city. Unless you like being mugged, anyway.

Watches with GPS are still towards the expensive end of the market, preventing large-scale market penetration for the time being. But this need not be the case for long. Once prices fall – and competition and further development dictate that they will – then the GPS watch will become an option for more and more people. Which will hopefully put a stop to at least a few of the opportunistic muggings that make a tourist’s life so hard.
