GPS Tracking Watch

There has been some controversy in recent years over the supposedly excessive monitoring that takes place in our society. CCTV security cameras are proliferating within western society, and other big questions of personal freedom are arising almost daily. There are two sides to the debate, but if there is one side issue on which there is broad agreement it is that children can be protected by the correct application of surveillance technology, and that this makes it worth at least debating its appropriateness.

GPS tracking watches work by dint of the fact that they have a small tracking device embedded in the watch which sends GPS information to a central computer. For parents this could be considered the best answer to the never ending fear that comes of letting our children out of our sight. If they are late getting back from school, or from having fun with their friends, it is natural for a parent to get worried. If a child will agree to wear a GPS watch, it can act in their defence and as a reassurance to their parents.

There will be some children who are less than happy to have their moments tracked, and they may try to remove the GPS tracker. If this is done, the GPS tracking watch sends a text message to the parent’s phone letting them know the location where this has happened. As time goes on it will become more difficult to remove such a component, but the answer for any parent at the moment is to get their child’s assent before giving them a GPS tracking watch.
