GPS Sports Watch – The GlobalSat GH-625 – A Viable Forerunner Alternative
The GS-Sport GH-625 is a GPS sports watch in a stylish sporty design, the main features are "Lap Logging", "Tracking", "GPS positioning" and "Time Alerts". The GPS has the ability to navigate and can locate and track anywhere you go.
The watch is designed for a wide range of outdoor activities such as Biking, Jogging, Running, Skiing, Rowing etc. The watch has the ability to upload data to a computer.
The GH-625 is sold in two distinct options: the GH-625B supports a heart rate monitor, the GH-625M does not.
The GH-625 GPS watch is Globalsat's 3rd generation GPS sports watch. While this watch features a newly designed form factor, it is a bit large to be considered an "ordinary" size wrist watch. If you have a small wrist, this watch might be a little uncomfortable, but on the other hand the GH-625 features a large screen size, an enhanced interface which can display up to 4 data fields on 4 custom pages. Unlike many rival GPS watches, the GH-625 boasts a mapping mode view.

The predecessor of the GH-625, the GH-615 was less useful to runners and athletes because it lacked the ability to store laps. The GH-625 rectifies this shortcoming with the ability to record 600 laps in memory with date-stamped session history.
The GH-625 supports the SiRFstarIII, high performance chip that can fix your position even with a weak signal status. This makes this watch the equivalent to Garmin Forerunner's watches. The watch also has WAAS/ ENGOS support.
The battery life in this watch can run continuous GPS (logging each second) for 10.5 which is longer than the Garmin Forerunner 405. A low-power warning signal is sounded when about 1 hour battery life remains.
Garmin Forerunner 405CX GPS Sport Watch with Heart Rate Monitor 
This Globalsat watch can store an impressive 60,000 tracking points, 100 waypoints and 600 laps. The Globalsat can record routes of way points along a traveled route. The watch allows you to track your route as a crumb method, marking and saving your tracking points by a special algorithm. You can mark your current position with the waypoints feature. Waypoints can mark out a target destination that can be navigated at a later stage.
Other features are:
- Can be used as a GPS receiver with an easy setup
- Firmware is upgradable through PC
- USB auto-detection function add-in
The Globalsat is a formidable competitor to the Forerunner 405CX, especially given that it is much cheaper and has better navigation and tracking features.
